SMOGA 1973 Set Profile
The SMOGA 1973 Set comprises alumni who entered St. Margaret’s School, Ilesa, in January 1969 and graduated in June 1973. This was the first set to sit for the WAEC examinations in June 1973, marking a shift from the previous November/December practice.
50th Anniversary Celebration – October 2023
The SMOGA 1973 Set celebrated their 50th graduation anniversary in October 2023 with a series of exciting and impactful events held over three days. The celebrations brought together alumni, students, teachers, and esteemed guests, fostering a spirit of unity, generosity, and nostalgia.
Day 1: Friday, October 20, 2023
The first day was marked by philanthropic activities aimed at giving back to the community and supporting students:
- Visit to the Disabled School: The group donated five ceiling fans and monetary gifts to the institution, ensuring a more comfortable learning environment for physically challenged students.
- Soccer Match: An engaging soccer competition was organized, culminating in the presentation of a trophy to the winning team.
- School Donation: The set donated 60 chairs and desks to provide seating for 120 students, addressing infrastructure needs at their alma mater
Day 2: Saturday, October 21, 2023
The second day of the celebration featured social and honorary events:
Visit to Chief Akinola: A courtesy visit was paid to the highly respected Ijesa leader, Chief Akinola, and his wife, in appreciation of their contributions to the community.
Gala Night: A spectacular night of reunion, entertainment, and recognition, where seven beloved teachers and the school matron were specially honored for their dedication and impact.
Day 3: Sunday, October 22, 2023
The grand finale of the celebration was marked by a special Thanksgiving Service at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, where members gathered in gratitude for the journey so far and prayed for continued success and togetherness.
